I hope none of you were without electricity or had a surplus of water over Christmas. I don't know why it should matter whether it is Christmas or not but it just does. Probably because of the effort and money invested in those few days!

We live in a very sheltered spot in Cheshire. We've had one days rain, heavy but not flooding.
Some high winds that brought a few branches down off trees in the park, but also lots of sun!!!!

We had our floods (Lowestoft) earlier this month. The trains went to pot so I couldn't make it for the work's Christmas do in Sheffield. The big boss lady put a tab behind the bar for everybody and my Sheffield colleagues were bringing in all sorts of goodies so I missed out big time there.

I'm due to go next week and my manager has promised to buy me a drink for Christmas and for having passed my PRINCE2 qualification - I'm buying her a drink to celebrate her getting voluntary early severence.

Over Christmas we have had very high winds, the fences around my garden can testify to this, however despite them being a blooming mess they aren't mine and I am not replacing them as I can't afford it. Unfortunately I don't think those responsible will replace them either. My fence that I had replaced looks lovely and sturdy still. No power losses so far and will keep my fingers crossed.

Further high winds are forecast here so will be battening down the hatches.

Our wee town of Dumfries has been hit really hard today with flooding so my thoughts are with all those affected. We don't live near the river so are very lucky. It must be terrible to have to be evacuated or lose your livelihood.

Likewise - Up a hill, above the snowline means that we are lucky when it comes to flooding. It gets exciting when the snow falls, but never dangerous. I feel for people living near rivers / on floodplains. Why we ever allowed building on floodplains is beyond me. Surely the planners and builders could get a little bit of a clue from the name 'floodplain'?

Hope everyone stays safe

really wet soggy day here today in Buckinghamshire,

we are hilly in our village and surrounds, but the hills are all the right way for us.

my front drive goes down quite steeply i'm no good with grade's but suffice to say i always drive straight into the garage i can't leave the car easily as i can't engage the handbrake far enough, if i have to i reverse up it and leave it in reverse gear, that way i feel when the handbrake is far enough up.

and the path from the garage to my front door is level, so got it sussed .. lol,

Kent has been quite battered. Never seen so much continuous rain. Caught the train to Bluewater today and instead of looking at green fields, all you could see was water. Very windy too!

So sad to see all the damage that has happened to our local coast line in mid wales.

I feel so much for all those folk who have had flood damage to homes and property in the last few days, it is daunting to watch the news and listen to the forecast.

Feeling so lucky to be living on high ground.

Keep safe all.
